The Parent Faculty Organization (PFO) has been fostering a robust, inclusive community since 1972. We are a registered charitable organization under Section 88 with the Hong Kong Government. With the committed support of volunteers over the years, we've been successful in fortifying the relationship between families and school.

  • The PFO helps build a strong community through a variety of events throughout the school year, including parent coffees, special interest clubs and divisional and schoolwide festivals.

  • All funds raised are given back to benefit our students and school. The PFO supports HKIS’s Student Learning Results by way of student enrichment programs via the PFO Innovation Endowed Fund, sponsorship of Lunar New Year activities and awarding High School Merit Scholarships.

  • PFO builds community through big and small ways throughout the school year. We establish networks to facilitate early connections for families new to HKIS, starting with the New Parent Breakfast. We also host PFO Walkabouts to help new parent and faculty families acclimate to the HKIS environment and life in Hong Kong.

  • We foster close bonds with our administration, staff and faculty and honor their hard work with commitment during Giving Thanks Week and Teacher Appreciation Week.

  • Interactive clubs like the Breakfast Club, Book Club, and Shutterbug Club bring our community together through shared interests. Our two school-wide events—the Pumpkin Festival and World’s Fair—are made possible by the tireless dedication of our many parent and student volunteers. They attract more than 3000 attendees and are the hallmark of the PFO’s work in building community.

OUR HISTORY

On September 27, 1972, six years after Hong Kong International School was established, the "Mothers' Club" held its first coffee morning in the school cafeteria. In time, this small group of pioneering mothers raised a cheque for $11,000, which went toward a new intercom system for the school. In 1987, HKIS Mothers’ Club and HKIS PTA voted to dissolve both organizations to form a Parent and Faculty Organization, and thus, PFO was born.Records indicate that the first World's Fair was held in 1976 and the first HKIS Halloween Carnival in 1980. Over the years, these two festivals have become the anchor community events organized by enthusiastic parent, student and faculty volunteers. Pumpkin Festival grows year after year. In a typical year, the festival brings together about 3,000 members of the community, featuring Hong Kong's only pumpkin patch, themed games, bake sale, student entertainment and more.
