Gianni Caprioli

Chef Gianni grew up on a small South Italian farm in Lavello Potenza with a family of cooks. He began his career at a very young age, where he found his interest and passion for food and cooking. Working numerous food preparation jobs and growing up on a farm, cultivated his understanding and awareness for quality ingredients and created his career as a chef.

At the age of 19 he opened his first restaurant in Italy. Before settling in Hong Kong in 2004, he was the private chef to the highly respectable, iconic, “king of Italy” and owner of FIAT group, Gianni Agnelli, which took his culinary journey throughout Italy, Europe, Japan and the US.

Fast forward to today, Chef Gianni has opened Giando Italian Restaurant & Bar; gourmet retail brand Mercato Gourmet and Pacific Gourmet, a food service company Dalla Valle in Hong Kong. Chef Gianni relies on his knowledge of original ingredients and dedication to quality to provide customers with the most authentic Italian food.

In February 2022, Chef Gianni was being awarded the ‘Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy’ by the Italian Republic and qualifies as a second civilian honour of the State.

Cameron Holt

HKIS Upper Primary Kid Kitchen Leader

I grew up in New Zealand and was taught to cook by my grandmother and mother. Food has always been an important part of my culture - celebrating important occasions through sharing food. I am a member of the Upper Primary Kid Kitchen task force and which embeds culinary units into our curriculum.  We have had fantastic experiences this year teaching students food safety and hygiene, connecting with food and the role food plays in our lives.
My favorite meal - chicken fettuccine or burgers and chocolate cake (or actually anything with chocolate in it).
